China Advocates Formulating International Internet Convention

China advocates intensifying international exchanges and cooperation and drawing up an international Internet convention said Cai Mingzhao, vice director of State Council Information Office on November 3.

Cai made the remark at the 3rd Asia Pacific Region's Media and High-tech and Social Development Symposium held in Beijing.

The official said that in the development of China's network media, China is faced with some problems similar to those other countries are confronting, such as online superstition, pornography, violence and other harmful information, which have greatly harmed teenagers' health. Online crime, online fraud and other illegal behaviors have disturbed the orderly operation of market, causing severe damage to rights and interests of the public.

Cai said that if there was no safe and legal management, there would be no sound development of network media. The aforesaid problems must be dealt with and solved according to law. In the meantime, China should join hands with international community to jointly strengthen the safety management of information network and try to draw up an international Internet convention in order to maintain a safe and healthy operation of the Internet and its contents.

The Chinese government attaches great importance to the integration of development and management of network media. Recent years have seen it issue a series of regulations concerning the Internet management. So far, some mischief for spreading unreal and harmful information has been basically curbed, online news dissemination order has also been regulated as well.
