HK Delegation to Attend Fourth WTO Ministerial Conference

Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Industry Chau Tak Hay is expected to attend the Fourth Ministerial Conference of the World Trade Organization (WTO), which will take place in Doha, Qatar from November 9 to 13.

The conference is expected to decide on the scope, structure and time frame of a new round of multilateral trade negotiations, according to a news release by the Information Services Department Tuesday.

"Launching a new round at Doha will be critical for restoring the credibility of the WTO and the multilateral trading system after the failure in Seattle two years ago," Chau was cited as saying.

It is also expected to give formal approval to the WTO membership of China, according to Chau.
