50th Anniversary of China Children's Journal Marked

Vice President Hu Jintao has sent a congratulatory letter to the China Children's Journal on its 50th anniversary and hailed its achievements over the past five decades.

An anniversary gathering was held Monday in Beijing, and it was attended by Xu Jialu, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), and Zhou Qiang, the first secretary of the Secretariat of the Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Youth League (CCYL).

In his letter, Hu urged the paper, under the direct leadership of the CCYL and the Chinese Communist Pioneers, to keep up with the times, follow the expectations of the Communist Party of China (CPC), play a bigger role in the healthy growth of each generation of children and develop the cause of the Chinese Communist Pioneers.

Hu, also a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, expressed his hope that the paper would use Marxism-Lenism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory as its guide and follow the requirements raised by the "Three Represent's" theory of President Jiang Zemin.

The paper should play a better role as an important way for the Party to teach children as well as being a good teacher and friend of the children, Hu said.
