France Hopes to Forge New Partnership With China

Talking with Chinese reporters in Paris on November 5 at the eve of his three-day visit to China, French Minister of Economy and Finances Laurent Fabius expressed his concern on expanding dialogue and cooperation with China.

The economic and trade cooperation is essential for the future relations between the two countries, Fabius said, adding as an independent technological power in key fields France is interested in today's China where more than 800 French enterprises have invested and employed about 150,000 people.

He noted at the moment of China's entry into WTO the main task of French-Chinese cooperation is to greatly increase the contribution of French enterprises, whose capital and savoir-faire accompany the economic opening-up of China.

Referring to the upcoming WTO conference in Doha, Qatar, he pointed out that it would bring balanced and fair results for all members. He stressed its political importance as it will tackle many issues such as North-South dialogue and dialogue between governments and civil societies.
