France and China Should Work Together to Fight Terrorism, French FM

France and China share common positions on many international issues, especially on the Afghan crisis, French Foreign Minister Hubert Vedrine said on Monday in Paris.

France and China should work together to fight terrorism and find a political solution to the problem of Afghanistan, said Vedrine following his meeting with Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao, who is on a five-day official visit to France.

"A wide-ranging international cooperation, especially between France and China, is a necessity (in the anti-terrorist fight)," said Vedrine.

The political and strategic dialogue between France and China is of extreme importance as both countries are permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and China now plays an increasingly important role on the world stage, he said.

On the Middle East situation, the French minister said that the points of views of France and China are quite "close."
