Conference on Implementation of Law on Legislation by Local Legislatures Opens

A work conference on the implementation of the Law on Legislation by local legislatures began Tuesday in Kunming, the capital of southwest China's Yunnan Province.

Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), sent a message to the meeting, calling on the people's congresses at all levels to strictly abide by and seriously implement the law.

The law, one of the basic laws in China, came into effect on July 1 this year.

In his instruction to the conference, the top lawmaker said all laws must follow the Constitution and no local legislation is allowed to disagree with the law.

Jiang Chunyun, a vice chairman of the NPC Standing Committee, addressed the opening of the meeting, saying that it is the first time that such a meeting has been held.

To carry out the policy of governing the nation by law is a great historic task required for building a socialist country, Jiang said.
