Veteran Chinese Lifter Wins Women's 53kg at Weightlifting Worlds

Veteran lifter Li Feng-ying of Chinese Taipei defeated strong challenge from Qiu Hongxia of China to win the women's 53kg category at the world weightlifting championships Monday in Antalya, Turkey.

The defending champion, who once represented China in international competitions, collected a total of 210 kilograms from the snatch and jerk for the overall gold, beating Qiu Hongxia to the second place.

Li Feng-Ying, gold medal winner at the 1999 world championships,snatched 95kgs and jerked 115kg in the lifts.

With those weights, she also finished first in the snatch, but was placed second in the jerk due to heavier bodyweight. Alexandra Escobar of Ecuador, who also jerked 115kgs, won the event with bodyweight advantage.

Escobar, who lifted 90kg in the snatch, claimed the bronze medal in the total at 205kgs.
