CPPCC Chairman Meets Gabonese Guests
Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met Monday with a delegation from Gabon's Economic and Social Council headed by the Council's president Louis Gaston Mayila.

Li spoke highly of the growth of Sino-Gabonese relations since China and Gabon forged diplomatic ties in 1974 and thanked the support given by Gabon to China on such issues as human rights. Heexpressed appreciation for Gabon's adherence to the one-China polity.

Li said that the rapid development of science and technology and the accelerated pace of globalization has made different economies become interdependent from others.

China's past two decades of reforms and opening-up have accumulated rich experience, he said. However, though China had made great progress, there remain many problems for China to study and solve.

He hoped the newly founded China Economic and Social Council can further its cooperation with its Gabonese counterpart and other similar organizations in other countries so as to contribute to each country's all-round development.

Mayila said that Gabon and China, two countries far apart geographically, can fully understand each other and share toward the same goals in key economic, social and human development issues.

Thanks to the concerted efforts made by both sides, he said, Gabon and China maintained successful cooperation, and Gabon has realized a number of socio-economic results with China's assistance. He hoped continued efforts can further the common development of the two countries.

He told Li that his council was also pleased to make joint analysis of key issues. Gabon is eager to learn from China's rich experiences in construction and gain inspiration from China, he said.
