More Than 60 Percent HK Residents Join Volunteering Service: Survey

About 62 percent of Hong Kong people said they had participated in organized volunteer service and mutual aid activities, a survey released Monday said.

The survey, conducted recently by the University of Hong Kong also indicated that participants of organized volunteer service and mutual aid activities provided an average of 35 and 22 hours of services respectively in the past 12 months.

About 45 percent respondents said that they participated in volunteering mainly through social service organizations, religious bodies and schools.

In addition, most respondents thought that the best way to promote local volunteer service is to improve the economic condition, to inject resources and to cultivate the atmosphere for volunteering.
