Majority of Firms in Western Japan Consider China Most Important

A majority of companies in the Kansai region, or western Japan, believe China is the most important country for their future business strategy, according to a survey released Monday by a Kansai business organization.

The survey was conducted by the Kansai Economic Federation on some 250 firms in the region, which centers on Japan's important industrial city of Osaka.

64.3 percent of respondents said China was the most important, while 15.2 percent said Asia except China, the survey showed.

China was considered important because of its cheap labor force as well as its potential for a huge export market, it said.

The survey also said 72.0 percent believed China's expected entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) would have favorable effects as China is expected to promote policy transparency and improve various legal systems after entering the world trade body.
