Hezbollah Vows to Continue Support for Palestinian UprisingThe Lebanese resistance group Hezbollah Sunday vowed to continue support for the Palestinian intifada (uprising) against Israeli aggressions.Hassan Nasrallah, secretary general of Hezbollah, or Party of God, said that "Hezbollah refuses to cease fighting Israel and will continue to support Palestinians' intifada." He also slammed the U.S.-led military strikes against Afghanistan as "a war against Islam and Muslims." "Washington is lying that it is a war against a few people and organizations. But the death of hundreds of innocent Afghans shows it is absolutely a war against Islam and Muslims," said Nasrallah. Since the September 11 terror attacks in New York and Washington, the U.S. has published a number of lists of alleged terrorists and terrorist groups, which include those suspected of involving in the attacks, such as Hezbollah and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas). Iran and Syria-backed Hezbollah spearheaded fighting against Israeli forces in south Lebanon until their withdrawal in May 2000, ending a 22-year occupation. However, the group has vowed to continue fighting Israel as long as it occupied the disputed Shebaa Farms on the Syrian-Lebanese-Israeli borders. |
