China Supports ASEAN Statement on Fighting Terrorism

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji stressed Monday that China supports a statement on fighting terrorism, which was passed during the seventh ASEAN summit this morning.

Zhu made the remarks at an informal luncheon meeting between ASEAN and China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) hosted by Brunei Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah.

He said that China has the same stance with ASEAN on fighting terrorism.

The stance is that no matter when and where terrorism happens, and whom it targets, the international community should take consistent position to oppose and fight it. At the same time, cracking down on terrorism should avoid hurting the innocent, Zhu added.

The leaders agreed to oppose any form of terrorism, and to strengthen consultations and cooperation in the framework of the Charter of the United Nations, hoping that peace can be restored at an early date.
