Wreckage of US Helicopter Shown on Al-Jazeera TV

Debris from a US helicopter Afghanistan's Taliban militia claimed to have shot down was shown Monday on Qatar's Al-Jazeera television.

Television pictures also showed Taliban militants were holding helmets they picked out of the helicopter wreckage over 500 metres outside the village of Nawur in the northern Ghazni province.

The ruling Taliban regime announced Saturday that two U.S. helicopters had been shot down in Ghazni province, killing about 50 Americans. But the Pentagon has said that four soldiers were injured when a helicopter crash-landed in bad weather on Friday.

In a statement, the Pentagon said that "the entire crew has been safely recovered out of Afghanistan and the four injured service members are now receiving medical care."

The U.S. has been denying the Taliban claims of shooting down U.S. aircraft since it launched air strikes on October 7 against Afghanistan, which is accused of harboring Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect of the September 11 terror attacks in the U.S..
