Leaders of China, Japan, ROK Reach Consensus on Trade CooperationThe leaders of China, Japan and the Republic of Korea (ROK) reached consensus Monday in Bandar seri Begawan on furthering economic and trade cooperation.At their third informal meeting, Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji expounded on China's stance on the historical issue, stressing the need to realize the healthy development of Sino-Japanese relations on the basis of "learning from the history and facing the future." Speaking highly of the cooperation of the three countries, Zhu said that the proposals China made last year during the three-nation meeting have been implemented or are being implemented. He suggested the meeting mechanism be established among economic and trade ministers and the consultative mechanism also be set up among the quality supervision and quarantines departments to promote the healthy development of the economic and trade cooperation of the three nations. Zhu also encouraged information and technological cooperation as well as personnel exchanges among the three sides. Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and ROK President Kim Dae-jung agreed with Zhu's view, congratulating China on its successful hosting of the APEC Leaders' Meeting and on its impending entry to the World Trade Organization. The three leaders agreed that promoting the three-nation cooperation in the framework of ASEAN plus China, Japan and the ROK ("10+3") is of significance to safeguarding peace and stability of Northeast Asia and Asia-Pacific region. They reached common ground on establishing the meeting mechanism among the economic and trade ministers, continuing to support the meeting among the finance ministers, and setting up business forum for the entrepreneurs of the three nations. The leaders expressed their stances of fighting all forms of terrorism and transnational crimes, and agreed to strengthen cooperation among the public security departments. They voiced their hopes to cooperate further in the fields of environmental protection, information technology, culture, tourismand personnel exchanges. The three sides also vowed to promote the mechanism of diplomatic consultation.
