Chinese Top Lawmaker Expresses Sympathy with Cuba for Hurricane

Visiting Chinese top lawmaker Li Peng expressed sympathy and solidarity during his talk on Sunday morning with his Cuban counterpart Ricado Alarcon for the imminent Hurricane to sweep the island country.

"I would like to express sympathy and solidarity with the Cuban people for impending natural disaster," Li said, adding that he believes the Cuban people will, under the leadership of President Fidel Castro, overcome the disaster, and reduce the losses to the minimum.

The meeting is still going on by press time.

The Hurricane Michelle is expected to hit Cuba later Sunday. More than 460,000 residents in the affected regions and 16,000 foreign tourists have been evacuated to safe places in the country and all international and domestic flights have been canceled, the civil defense authorities said.
