Jiang Attends Closing Ceremony of Int'l Acrobatic FestivalChinese President Jiang Zemin Sunday evening attended the closing ceremony of the Eighth Wuqiao International Acrobatic Festival held in Shijiazhuang, the capital of north China's Hebei Province.Organizers of the festival awarded 14 medals at the ceremony to winners chosen from the 25 participating programs by the panel of experts. Artists from Columbia, China, the United States, Mexico, the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Russia shared the medals, including two golds, four silvers and eight bronzes. The artists then performed their medal-winning items at the ceremony. President Jiang, currently on an inspection tour in Hebei, watched the performance. Accompanying Jiang at the ceremony were Zeng Qinghong, alternate member of the Political Bureau and member of the Secretariat of the Chinese Communist Party Central Committee, and some other senior officials. The Wuqiao International Acrobatic Festival, a biennial art event, has seen its influence expanding quickly since it was initiated in 1987. The event this year was kicked off on October 27. International Acrobatic Festival Awards MedalsThe Eighth Wuqiao International Acrobatics Festival announced its list of awards Sunday.Troupes from 11 countries entered 25 items in the competition during the festival. The two gold medals went to troupes from Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK). Four silver medals and eight bronze were also awarded. Participant were from countries including China, Russia, the United States, the DPRK, Kazakhstan, Germany, Ghana, Mongolia, Colombia and Mexico. Known as the "cradle of acrobatics," Wuqiao County in Hebei Province has made an important contribution to the development of acrobatics. The bi-annual festival was initiated in 1987.
