Zimbabwean Foreign Minister Summons British, EU Envoys

Zimbabwean Foreign Minister Stan Mudenge has summoned the British and European Union (EU) troika diplomats to protest against a recent stance of their countries on Zimbabwe, the Zimbabwean News Agency reported on Saturday.

Mudenge wanted to seek clarification on actions taken by Britain in mobilizing the EU against Zimbabwe, a move viewed as a direct violation of the Abuja agreement signed in June this year, the news agency said.

Under that agreement, Britain had pledged to mobilize donor support for the land reform program in Zimbabwe.

However, the EU demanded on Tuesday consultations with Zimbabwe within 15 days on human rights record in the country.

It is reported that British ambassador Brian Donnely has accepted the concerns raised by Mudenge and promised to relay the message to his government.
