Hydrological Information on Yellow River to Be Open to Public

The Chinese government is to provide the public with hydrological information about the Yellow River, the second longest river in the country.

Officials with the Yellow River Water Resources Committee, a sub-committee of the Ministry of Water Resources, said the information will include instant reports from observation stations, satellite cloud pictures, and monthly and yearly rainfall statistics.

The information comes from an observation network composed of hundreds of hydrological and rainfall monitoring stations scattered along the Yellow River.

The committee expects the information to help decision-making in many industries, and people become more familiar with how weather and river conditions affect their lives, say officials.

It is also an attempt to show the value of water resources since the country has spent huge amounts on water conservancy and related research.

The committee will continue to publish information on its Website.
