1,200 More Pakistan Tribesmen Join Taliban

Another 1,200 Pakistani tribesmen crossed the border into Afghanistan on Sunday, bringing the total number to 4,400 volunteers in four days, local press reported.

The reports quoted Mohammad Ismael, a local head of the Tehreek Nifaz-e-Shariat Mohammadi (TNSM) party, as saying that the latest fighters were taken to the frontier at Bajaur tribal agency in North West Frontier Province.

The men were armed with automatic rifles and other weapons, Ismael said.

They were to be taken to the city of Jalalabad in eastern Afghanistan to join other volunteers who have crossed in recent days and where the Taliban would decide their future duties, he said.

One thousand tribesmen crossed from the same place on Saturday, 1,200 on Friday and 1,000 on Thursday.

An estimated 4,000 more tribes people are waiting on the Pakistan side of the border and they will cross into Afghanistan by next Friday, sources from the TNSM said.
