International Folk Song and Art Festival Scheduled

Art troupes and singers from 11 countries will attend the third international folk song and art festival that will be held in Nanning, capital of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, from November 10-21.

These troupes, with some 90 members altogether, are from several countries including the United States, Japan, Australia, Spain and Vietnam, including the American band "Air Supply", "Bravo Flamenco" of Spain and "BTR" of Bulgaria.

A score of foreign singers, including Vladimr Devyatow of Russia and Maribeth B. Pascua of the Philippines, will give performances at the week-long festival.

In tandem with the folk song and art festival, another drama festival, a vocal competition for people of ethnic backgrounds, and an investment and trade fair will be hosted in Nanning.

Guangxi, which had a population of over 46 million in 1997, is home to people from 28 ethnic groups, including 12 major ones. The ethnic groups here are well-known for their love of singing and dancing.
