Self-determination Not An Excuse for Splitting State, Chinese Representative
With regard to the right of national self-determination, Xie Bohua, Chinese representative addressed the third board meeting of the UN General Assembly, saying that this only applies to the peoples under the rule or occupation of foreign countries. It can never be an excuse in support of violating a country's territorial integrity and sovereignty.
He said self-determination, as an important part of human rights, is a sacred right for all nations. This is particularly applicable for suppressed nations in their struggle against the rule of imperialism and colonialism and for national independence and liberation. According to the relevant resolutions of the UN General Assembly and the "Vienna Manifesto and Action Program", the self-determination only applies to the nation under the foreign rule and it can never be an excuse in support of violating a country's territorial integrity and sovereignty. Recent years have witnessed some people openly advocate to split sovereign states and involve in activities to damage national unification under the camouflage of "national self-determination", which should be strongly opposed by the whole world.
Xie Bohua also mentioned Palestine-Israel conflicts. He said to promote the Middle East peace process, the key point lies in the fact that the prolonged blood-shed conflicts should be brought to an end as soon as possible and to restore Palestine's legitimate national rights. The cessation of the violence would not only benefit regional people but also contribute to the world peace process. We express our concern on the intense situation caused by Israel's unjustifiable invasion of the Palestine.
