Sina.com Made Resources Known with Revenue Increased and Loss Reduced

Sina.com Wednesday revealed its first quarter financial report of 2002 financial year. The report indicates, the net growth of this quarter has increased 4.9 percent with the net loss dropped 35.6 percent as compared with last quarter. Having long confronted with the shrinking threat, the Internet practitioners are somehow reassured by the monotonous figures.

Last quarter saw Sina.com begin to take a favorable turn. According to the report, its net revenue has amounted to US$ 6.1 million with its net loss reduced to US$5.3 million. On the whole, it is nearing the aim of making profits. In this financial quarter the development of e-business and charged services have been accelerated with the revenue increasing by 96.1 percent over the last quarter. It is beyond doubt a piece of good news for Internet companies. It shows e-business and charged services like short messages and charged news have been widely used since they were put into practice.

Detailed classification of users, providing charged service and cooperating with other industries to open up new channels for generating income, are the main tasks Sina.com is attempting to fulfill. Recently Sina.com have in succession offered a series of charged services, which have changed Sina.com from the one of a sole news provider to the one offering various services. Sina.com announced it has finished purchasing 29 percent of shares from Yangguang Culture.com and started cooperation in the areas of overlapped selling, joint promotion and developing new multi-media programs. All these represent a new train of thoughts of Sina.com in the marketing orientation and business development though some people regard the purchasing as expediency.

Sina.com chief executive Mao Daolin said the business involved in mobile phone service and electronic business is going to be the fast-developed business in their company. Moreover, he indicated Sina.com would consolidate its increase by generating multiple revenue in multimedia and technology services and the Internet technology and media business as well.

Some experts believe the Internet companies have entered the more mature stage after stepping out of the non-profit period. They should cater to the needs of customers. Mao Daolin said the charged E-mail account services have already differentiated users as individuals and enterprises so as to offer various ways of services. Sina.com has at present more than 30 million subscribed users and the charged service users have increased as well.
