Vice-President Arrives in France for Visit to Push Sino-French RelationsChinese Vice-President Hu Jintao, upon his arrival in Lyon on Thursday, expressed his hope that his official visit to France will push Sino-French relations to a new level.In a written speech at the airport in Lyon, Hu said he was pleased with the fact that leaders of both China and France have kept close contacts, personnel in various fields have had frequent visits and exchanges, and cooperation in the areas of economy and trade, science and technology, culture, education and military has been productive. Furthermore, Hu said he was pleased to see that over the years, France and China have been increasingly intensifying their coordination and cooperation on international affairs. The Chinese vice-president, who just completed his visit to Britain, said that as permanent members of the U.N. Security Council, China and France shoulder a heavy responsibility on the international stage. Therefore, it is in the basic interests of both countries as well as conducive to the world's peace and stability to strengthen Sino-French cooperation on international affairs, Hu added. He said he would like to exchange views with French leaders over issues of mutual concern during his visit and meet people from all circles to enhance mutual understanding, expand consensus and push the comprehensive partnership between China and France to a new high. France is the third leg of his five-nation tour, which will also take him to Spain and Germany. Russia was his first stop. Vice President Ends Visit to BritainChinese Vice President Hu Jintao winded up his five-day official visit to Britain on Thursday and headed for French city of Lyon to continue his five-nation tour.Sir Erric Milligan, the mayor of Edinburgh, British Ambassador to China Sir Anthony Galsworthy and Chinese Ambassador to Britain Ma Zhengang went to see the vice president off at the airport. Earlier on Thursday, Hu, who arrived here from London on Wednesday, met Lord Browne, president of the multi-national BP (Beyond Petroleum) company. In London, Hu and British Prime Minister Tony Blair focused on Sino-British relations during their meeting. He also called on Queen Elizabeth II on Wednesday.
