Relaxed Policy Control on Cross-Straits Trade Expected in TaiwanOctober 31 saw Taiwan authorities made a decision on relaxing policy control over cross-Straits trade, less limits on processing materials from China's mainland in Taiwan and enlarged functions by Offshore Shipping Center in Kaohsiung, according to sources from Taipei.This policy adjustment won approval at a conference held by Taiwan's "Executive Yuan" on the same day. According to plan, Taiwan authorities will increase Kaohsiung Offshore Shipping Center's functions in several steps. This adjustment means that raw materials from China's mainland in future will be permitted to be processed into manufactured goods for carrying to other countries and regions, said SU Tzen-ping, director-general of Government Information Office of Taiwan "Executive Yuan".
