Indian PM to Visit Russia, US, Britain

Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee will undertake a crucial three-nation tour of Russia, the United States and Britain beginning Sunday which will focus on global campaign against terrorism, official sources said Thursday.

On November 4, the Indian leader will reach the historic city of St. Petersburg before going to Moscow for important talks with President Vladimir Putin on November 6.

During the visit, India and Russia will sign a number of agreements to deepen cooperation between them in various fields.

After his first visit to Russia as the prime minister, Vajpayee will go to Washington for talks with President George W. Bush on November 9. This will be his first meeting with Bush though they have been in touch telephonically.

Vajpayee-Bush parleys are expected to go into the current global campaign against terrorism in the wake of September 11 strikes in the United States and India's concerns over cross-border terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir, official sources said Thursday.

Later, Vajpayee will move over to New York where he will address the United Nations General Assembly on November 10.

However, it is still unclear whether he would have a meeting with Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf in New York.

On his return home, he will stop over in London for a day on November 12 where he will meet Premier Tony Blair, the second time in a month.
