Turkey Decides to Send Troops to Afghanistan
Turkey on Thursday decided to contribute troops in the U.S.-led war in Afghanistan, the Anatolia News Agency reported .
Prime Minister Bulent Ecevit, emerging from a cabinet meeting at the Prime minister's Office here Thursday morning, told reporters that the cabinet took decisions regarding Turkey's contributions to the U.S. operation "Enduring Freedom" in Afghanistan.
He added that President Ahmed Necdet Sezer has also approved the decisions taken at the cabinet. However, he gave no details of the decisions.
It was believed that the Turkish troops would not go to the frontline to confront the Taliban forces. Earlier reports said that Turkey would like to help train the anti-Taliban Northern Alliance force behind the battle front.
