A total of 40 programs from 30 countries were entered in the competition, which aimed to encourage individuals, organizations and relevant institutions to give priority to architecture protection and improvement.
Quanzhou city of Fujian province was also encouraged by UNESCO to share its experience with counterparts from other countries.
The Quanzhou project, first launched in 1998, retained the road's original terrace construction style, and experts paid great attention to the use of local traditional materials and technology.
