Iran Routs UAE 3-0 at World Cup Playoff
Iran
came closer to the World Cup finals after they beat the
United Arab Emirates
3-0 in the second leg of an Asian Zone World Cup playoff Wednesday.
With the triumph, they advanced on a 4-0 aggregate score following their 1-0 win in the first leg in Tehran, setting up a two-game playoff against
Ireland
for a World Cup berth.
Ali Daei opened the scoring in the seventh minute on a free kick before Karim Bagheri made it 2-0 in the 75th. Mehrdad Minavand completed the scoring four minutes later.
They will face Ireland in Dublin on Nov. 10, with the return leg five days later.
