US Gets Central Asian Countries' Support for Strikes: US Official

The United States has got the full understanding and support of Central Asian countries including Uzbekistan for the US strikes against Afghanistan, Commander-in-Chief of the US Central Command Tommi Fleinks said Tuesday in Tashkent, capital of Uzbekistan.

Speaking at a press conference after talks with Uzbek President Islam Abduganiyevich Karimov on the US campaign in Afghanistan, General Fleinks said the United States is satisfied with the assistance Uzbekistan is providing and that US-Uzbek military cooperation is mutually beneficial.

The US anti-terrorist military action is going on as planned and it will be an enduring operation, General Fleinks told reporters.

The US military official also said that unlike previous US military actions, the ongoing strikes do not focus on specific cities or targets.

Asked if the United States will suspend military strikes during Muslims' Ramadan, General Fleinks shied away by saying the US has its own stand on the war against terrorism.

Before visiting Uzbekistan, General Fleinks made whirlwind trips to Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Oman and Pakistan to discuss the US-led war against

terrorism with leaders of these countries.
