Omar Tells Zaeef Not to Meet UN Envoy

Taliban supreme leader Mullah Omar on Wednesday asked his envoy to Islamabad Mullah Zaeef not to meet UN special representative to Afghanistan Lakhdar Brahimi because he only has resolutions on the US standpoint, according to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

"First of all, the United Nations should convince the United States to stop its military attacks on Afghanistan, during which more than one thousand innocent civilians were killed. But the UN is ignoring this and supporting the United States," Omar said.

He said Taliban authorities are not interested in meeting the UN special representative.

Earlier, the Taliban envoy Mullah Zaeef requested to hold talks with the visiting UN special representative to Afghanistan Lakhdar Brahimi in Islamabad, but he was refused by the UN spokesman Eric Falt.

The spokesman said Brahimi had "no time" to meet Zaeef to discuss the US-led air strikes against the Islamic militia.

No Considerable Loss to Taliban as US Using Old Maps

A spokesman for the Afghan Taliban has said the US-led air strikes have so far failed to destroy the major Taliban positions as they have been using old maps, according to the Islamabad-based News Network International (NNI) on Wednesday.

The spokesman, Abdul Mutmaen, said that the US-led coalition might have hit some targets but what is most fortunate is that they are carrying out bombings by utilizing the old maps of Dawood Khan, Mujahideen (holy warriors) or the Soviet era.

"They have conducted operations by utilizing the old maps. But the Mujahideen were not present in these bases. Resources and equipment had been shifted from these areas. Very little part (of resources) was there," the NNI quoted Mutmaen as saying.

He asserted that the coalition has failed to gain military achievements, adding their bombings have just polluted the environment.
