Shipwreck Rescue Work Continues in Bohai Straits

Rescue work after a shipwreck in the Bohai Straits off east China's Shandong Province has been continuing.

Sources from the China Marine Salvage Center said that by Tuesday afternoon, rescue workers had saved five people, and found 21 bodies at sea.

At least 32 people were aboard a cargo ship caught in a storm in the Bohai Straits. The ship exploded early Sunday morning before reaching its destination.

The ill-fated roll-on-roll-off ship, Tong Hui, was carrying six liquefied petroleum gas tanker trucks and three trailers from Lushun, a port in northeast China's Liaoning Province, to Longkou, in Shandong Province.

The ship was hit by a severe storm, which may have caused the gas explosion.

Large numbers of ships and planes, and more than 5,000 people have assisted in rescue work since the shipwreck on Sunday.
