Iranian Supreme Leader Tells US Not to Expect Support

Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday ruled out any possibility of Iran's assistance to the United States in seeking illegitimate interests in Afghanistan, the state-run IRNA news agency reported.

Khamenei, who was visiting Iran's cultural city Isfahan, said that different perspectives on the global issues are acceptable, but anyone should abide by law to "follow the leadership on sensitive matters."

"The Constitution has put forward a clear-cut provision and has empowered the leadership to have the final say on critical matters," he stressed.

Khamenei said that the U.S. should not have any expectation from Iran while engaged in a full-scale war in Afghanistan, referring to the suggested U.S.-Iran military cooperation in combating terrorist groups in Afghanistan.

He said that the U.S. has tried to fool those inexperienced young people in the country to believe that Iran should soften its firm stance on anti-Iran policies pursued by the U.S..

But a large number of Iranian young people are ready to stand against any possible conspiracy against Iran, he said.

Last week, Iran's reformist President Mohammad Khatami also ruled out the possibility of normalizing ties with Washington and denied reports of "secret" contacts between the two sides after the September 11 terror attacks in the United States.
