Gulf Arab States Approve Anti-Terrorism Strategy

The member states of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on Tuesday approved a unified strategy to fight extremism and terrorism, the Bahrain News Agency reported.

During the 20th GCC interior ministers' meeting, the participants agreed to enhance cooperation in and coordination on combating extremism and terrorism, including exchanging

information, said a communique issued at the end of the meeting, held in the Bahraini capital.

The ministers, who also discussed ways of curbing organized crime, adopted a uniform guideline to join the international efforts to combat money laundering, the communique said.

It added that an inter-GCC committee will be set up to study a working paper on fighting terrorism.

Addressing the closing session of the meeting, Bahraini Interior Minister Sheikh Muhammad Bin Khalifa Al-Khalifa said that the participants share views on the latest developments of the international situation.

Sheikh Muhammad said that the GCC member states condemn all forms of terrorism and fully support the international efforts to fight terrorism to safeguard the interests of GCC nations and people.

The GCC, a regional political, economic and military alliance, groups Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
