DPRK Slams US for Meddling over Its Religious Issues

The Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) on Tuesday criticized the United States for "mud-slinging" DPRK over religious issues in an recent annual report on international religious freedom.

A spokesman of the DPRK Foreign Ministry told Korean Central News Agency that the U.S. charges against the DPRK and some other countries are in contravention of religious freedom, constituting "an imprudent and outrageous act" of trampling down the fundamental principle of the international law.

He noted that the United States had kept finding faults with other countries by invoking its own law and acting like a judge of religious issues.

However, Washington should, first of all, admit and apologize for the destruction of religious buildings and the killing by its armed forces of many Korean religious personnel during the Korean War, said the spokesman.

He said that the United States is in no position to lecture other countries on religious issues.
