China, Rwanda Celebrate 30th Anniversary of Diplomatic Ties

The Chinese embassy in Rwanda Tuesday held a reception in Kigali to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Rwanda.

At the reception, Chinese Ambassador Shen Jiangkuan recalled the healthy development of the two countries' relations over the past three decades.

The cooperation between China and Rwanda in the areas of trade and economy, technology and science, culture and education have been very "fruitful", he said, citing that many programs undertaken by China in Rwanda have received heartfelt praise.

"Our cooperation is that of friends and brothers," the Chinese ambassador said, expressing satisfaction in particular with the two countries' cooperation in international affairs.

He said there is a broad prospect for the two countries and the two peoples to increase friendly exchanges, enhance trade and economic cooperation and promote comprehensive development of their cordial relationship.

Speaking on the same occasion, Rwandan Foreign Minister Andre Bumaya said Rwanda and China have conducted "fruitful cooperation" during the past 30 years, to the effect that great achievements have been made in both countries.

He noted that China has offered great help in Rwanda's agricultural sector and infrastructure development, citing that China has helped build many roads in his country.

"China contributed a lot to our development," the minister said.

Bumaya expressed hope that the two countries can look at ways how their private sectors can work together to "boost our cooperative relations".

"Our cooperation has been positive, and the future will be even brighter," he stressed.
