Saddam Delivers Third Open Letter to Western Governments

Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Tuesday delivered a third open letter to the United States and other Western governments on the September 11 terror attacks in the U.S., appealing the world to destroy all weapons of mass destruction with the U.S. in the first place.

In an official copy obtained by Xinhua, Saddam said that the destruction of all weapons of mass destruction, especially those in the U.S. and Israel, will surely reduce "aggressions and injustice."

Saddam accused the U.S. and other Western governments of doing "injustice" to other countries, adding that "Injustice needs someone to stand against."

He noted that the Western governments reacted vehemently after the September 11 terror attacks in the U.S., while other attacks happened in the so-called "undemocratic" countries often went unheeded.

He also strongly condemned the U.S.-led air strikes against Afghanistan.

The Iraqi leader has previously addressed two letters to the U.S. and other Western governments, urging the world's superpower to use "wisdom" rather than force in dealing with the terror attacks. Saddam, who has confronted the U.S. for more than a decade, commented after the September 11 attacks by saying that the U.S. "is harvesting the thorns it has planted in the world." The Iraqi president is among the few world leader who have not condemned the devastating attacks in New York and Washington, adding that he would be a hypocrite if he had sent condolences to the U.S..
