Chinese, Japanese Scholars Discuss War-Relevant Issues
Chinese and Japanese scholars Tuesday had a seminar on war issues related to the Japanese aggression in China at the Memorial Hall of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.
The participants discussed about compensation for Chinese "Comfort Woman," forced Chinese laborers, the victims of World War II, Japan's history textbook issue and Japanese prime minister's visit to the Yasukuni Shrine.
In recent years, more and more individuals in Asian countries have sued Japan for compensation for their miserable sufferings in the war.
According to Japanese scholars at the seminar, many Japanese pacifists have set up justice organizations to support Chinese plaintiffs.
On October 8, Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi expressed introspection about the war and an apology and mourning for those Chinese people who died during the war, while visiting the Memorial Hall of the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression.
The hall is near the Lugou (Marco Polo) Bridge, some 15 kilometers southwest of Beijing, where the eight-year war started on July 7, 1937.
