Iraq Demands Immediate End to US Raids on Afghanistan

Iraqi President Saddam Hussein on Monday urged countries worldwide to press the United States to immediately stop its bombing campaign on Afghanistan, the official Iraqi News Agency (INA) reported.

The appeal for an immediately halt to the US "aggression" against Afghanistan was made at an Iraqi cabinet meeting chaired by Saddam, the INA said.

Saddam also hailed the Palestinian intifada (uprising) against Israel since September last year and called on countries neighboring Israel to facilitate the delivery of anti-armour weapons to Palestine to support its struggle against Israel, the INA said.

Iraq on Saturday accused the U.S. of killing civilians in Afghanistan and demanded the Organization of the Islamic Conference to take "immediate" measures to stop such US attacks.

Iraqi officials and media have strongly condemned the US military strikes against the Afghan Taliban regime who refused to surrender Osama bin Laden, the prime suspect in the terror attacks in New York and Washington.

The Taliban claimed that over 1,000 civilians had been killed in the U.S.-led air attacks that began on October 7.
