China's Port Municipality Welcomes Advice for Development

The north China port municipality of Tianjin is expected to benefit from advice from some 500 leading economists, experts and senior officials, who gathered at a two-day forum held here.

The International Consultative Forum for the Mayor of Tianjin, which concluded Sunday, was the largest high-level forum before China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Leaders of business conglomerates such as Motorola, Siemens, Samsung and Shell attended the forum, showing their interest in this emerging port market.

Participants filed many suggestions on Tianjin's strategies for coping with the challenges that will be faced after China's WTO entry in investment and financing, high-tech industry, science and technology, and the relations between government and enterprises.

They particularly suggested the municipal government should continuously upgrade the enterprise structure and quicken its pace of adapting to the global market.

Li Shenglin, mayor of Tianjin, said at the closing ceremony that relevant policies and regulations will be formulated to implement the suggestions on the development of the city.
