The quake's epicenter was at 26.14 degrees north latitude and 100.34 degrees east longitude, according to Yunnan Seismological Station. In addition, over 1,500 buildings in Taoyuan Village in the epicenter have collapsed. About six villages in a neighboring county were affected by the quake. Rescue teams have been dispatched to the quake-hit areas. Local officials were investigating the disaster situation. Yongsheng County, which is 600 kilometers northwest of Kunming, capital of Yunnan, belongs to Lijiang Prefecture.
