Beijing Customs Reports Big Tariff Revenue Hikes

Beijing customs officials reported a big hike in its tariff revenue this year, which has so far reached 11.5 billion yuan (1.4 billion US dollars), the customs office said in Beijing on October 26

The increase is 3.4 billion yuan (410 million US dollars), or up 41 percent from the same period last year before, according to statistics.

Customs officials attributed the big growth to vigorous imports resulting from the thriving domestic economy, the effective anti- smuggling campaign, and improved service efficiency -- factors which combined to attract more enterprises to do import and export business through Beijing customs.

In the first nine months, imports through Beijing hit 11.5 billion US dollars, up 14.5 percent from the same period last year, with majority of import goods being hi-tech and high value-added products like electronics and communications equipment, sources said.
