Chinese University Celebrates 50th Anniversary
The Shanghai-based Donghua University, known for its world-class program in textiles and clothing technology, celebrated its 50th anniversary Sunday in east China metropolis Shanghai.
Vice-Premier Li Lanqing sent a message of congratulations to the event.
Donghua University was established by merging Shanghai's former China Textile University and Shanghai Textile School in August 1999.
China's first doctor of textiles, Pan Ning who is now chairman of the American Textile Association, graduated from Donghua University.
The university now has 12,600 on-campus undergraduates and some 2,000 graduate students. Seven academic disciplines are taught at the university, including engineering technology, economics, management, literature, law and education.
