Israeli Government to Face Four Motions of No-confidence Sunday
The Israeli government Sunday will face four motions of no-confidence presented in the parliament by opposition parties over the army's incursion into the Palestinian territories and the government's economic policies.
The leftist Meretz party, headed by opposition leader Yossi Sarid, will submit a no-confidence motion over the Israeli incursion, and the five Arab parties have together submitted a similar but separate motion, local media said.
The Gesher (Bridge) Party and Democratic Choice will each present a no-confidence motion on the government's inadequate attention to unemployment, poverty and the economic crisis.
Apart from strong international criticism, Israel's military incursion into six Palestinian-controlled West Bank towns, which was launched 11 days ago after the assassination of Tourism Minister Rehavam Ze'evi, also sparked strong protests from the domestic Left.
As a result of the 13-month-long Israeli-Palestinian conflict and a downturn in the global economy, the Israeli economy is also experiencing a hard time with the unemployment hitting 8.9 percent last month.
