Nine Killed, 15 Injured During US Attacks on Afghanistan

Afghan Taliban claimed Saturday that at least 9 people were killed and 15 others injured during a fresh wave of the US-led air attacks on Kapisa province, Afghanistan, according to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

Quoting Taliban spokesman Amir Khan Muttaqi, the AIP said US warplanes pounded Tagab and Najrab areas in Kapisa province on Saturday. At least 9 civilians were killed while 15 others injured.

It said the US warplanes also bombed Kabul, Herat, Samangan province and other major targets in Afghanistan.

The Taliban spokesman denied an early report by the AIP suggesting that five opposition commanders were hanged by the hard- line militia Saturday morning.

According to AIP, Afghan Taliban executed five opposition commanders Saturday morning after capturing them in Samangan province.

It said the Afghan opposition Northern Alliance launched a major offensive against Taliban in Dara Souf of Samangan province, which was repulsed by the Taliban soldiers. Five opposition commanders and 15 troops were captured during the fighting.

Mohammed Bilal and other opposition commanders were hanged after the capture.
