Jiangt Meets Members of Journalists Association

Chinese President Jiang Zemin met a group of journalists in Beijing Friday, calling on them to improve their work under the guidance of Marxism, Mao Zedong Thought and Deng Xiaoping Theory.

Jiang, General Secretary of the Central Committee of Communist Party of China (CPC), made the remark Friday when meeting with participants of a council conference of the All-China Journalists Association (ACJA) at the Great Hall of the People.

Jiang said that journalists' work has always been an essential part of the Party's cause. It has made important contribution to China's long-time construction.

He said that Chinese journalists have played a special role in leading the public opinion under the leadership of the Party and the principles of serving the people and serving socialism.

The President said that journalists have worked hard and given excellent coverage on the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders Meeting just closed in Shanghai.

He said that the ACJA has fulfilled its duty by serving as a bridge between the Party, the government and the media.

Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji and Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao also attended the meeting.
