Body of Abdul Haq to Be Handed Over to Family Members: Taliban

A spokesman for the Afghan Taliban said on Saturday the dead bodies of the executed opposition commander Abdul Haq and his followers have been shifted to the city of Kabul and would be handed over to their family members, according to the Afghan Islamic Press (AIP).

The spokesman told the AIP in Peshawar that the dead bodies were shifted to Kabul on Friday after the execution on the outskirts of the city.

Sources said Abdul Haq's body would be handed over to his family members and taken to Peshawar in Pakistan soon. He would be buried near Jalozai area in Peshawar where his wife and a son were buried two year ago.

Abdul Haq, a renowned Afghan opposition commander, was executed Friday for treason under a religious decree issued by a meeting of Afghan religious scholars.

Reports reaching here from Kabul said he was shot dead with an automatic rifle around 13:00 in the afternoon while others said he was hanged by the Taliban on the outskirts of Kabul.

He was the most well-known commander of the Hizb-e-Islami organization during the time of Afghan Jihad (Holy War) against Soviet invasion.
