Guangzhou City Completes Urban Restructuring Program

South China's Guangzhou City, capital of Guangdong Province, announced Friday that it has completed a three-year urban restructuring program.

Starting in 1998, the program included a total of 75 projects to solve some problems, such as traffic jam and dirty streets.

The municipal government invested more than 60 billion yuan (7. 5 billion U.S. dollars) in the program.

Urban expressways and an airport highway were built to ease traffic congestion and link the city with convenient access to highly developed neighboring areas.

New sports venues have been completed for the national sports meet which is to begin this year.

Meanwhile, restructuring of buildings, scenic spots and residential areas, along with an improvement in air and water quality have been added to the clean up of the city.

The city expects to be one of the most suitable cities for living and starting business in China, according to its ambitious urban construction plan.
