China Continues to Expand Domestic Demand Coming Year

Vice Minister An Min with the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economics Cooperation made a statement today at the Malaysia-China Business Opportunity Seminar that China will continue a robust proactive financial and monetary policy and enlarging domestic demand in the face of a slowdown of the global economy. Meanwhile, he indicated China would further strengthen its cooperation with the ASEAN countries after its entry of the WTO.

The minister pointed out that great achievements China has made these years. He said coupled with a comprehensive enhancement of national strength, China holds the first place in using foreign investment among the developing countries during the past eight years. In spite of a slowdown of the global economy, China has kept a sustained growth in imports and use of foreign investment. He shows confidence in a 7 percent growth of the Chinese economy this year.

When talking about China's cooperation with ASEAN, An believes that China will offer greater business opportunities for the ASEAN countries after its entry of the WTO. He said that a continuously enlarged Chinese market has contributed to the development of ASEAN economies and that it will still insist on its stand to defend the interests of the developing countries in the WTO and help economic recovery of the ASEAN countries.

An Min further said that the Chinese government has long followed the strategy to encourage Chinese enterprises to realize globalization and ASEAN is regarded as the key area for this strategy. In response, Minister of Malaysian Ministry of International Trade and Industry extended his welcome to Chinese enterprises and their investment to Malaysia.
