Tony Blair Sees Hu Jintao's Upcoming Visit as Important

British Prime Minister Tony Blair is looking forward to the upcoming visit by Chinese Vice-President Hu Jintao, Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott said Thursday in London.

Speaking at a banquet marking the end of the third meeting of the China-UK Forum on Wednesday evening, the deputy prime minister said Chinese Vice-President Hu's visit to Britain is very important in the development of bilateral relations.

Prescott stressed that the third UK-China Forum meeting scored great success, which he said will further increase mutual understanding and promote development of the relations between the two countries.

His comment was shared at the banquet by Song Jian, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) and co-chairman of the China-UK Forum, and Michael Heseltine, former British deputy prime minister and co-chairman of the China-UK Forum.

During the two-day session, participants from both countries discussed issues concerning industry, culture, education, the environment, technology, finance, law and media, and put forward a series of constructive suggestions on bilateral cooperation in these fields.

The forum, a high-level and non-governmental gathering, was initiated by the heads of government of China and Britain in 1998.
