Beijing Mayor Welcomes Cooperation with French Oil Giant

Beijing Mayor Liu Qi said Thursday the city welcomes cooperation between its chemical enterprises and Totalfinaelf, a leading oil group in France.

Liu made the remark while meeting with vice president of Totalfinaelf Francois Cornelis and his entourage.

The mayor said Beijing is going to restructure its chemical industry.

Liu briefed the guests on the city's economic development. Its GDP grew 11 percent in the first three quarters this year, while the GDP in the new and hi-tech sector grew 27 percent, mainly from IT, communications and software.

Beijing will further develop the new and hi-tech industries, like environmental protection and new materials, Liu added.

Totalfinaelf is the largest industrial group in France and ranks fourth in oil groups in the world, with an annual revenue of 80 billion US dollars. It was founded after a merger of Elfaquitaine and Totalfina in 1999.

Totalfinaelf has so far invested a total of 600 million US dollars in China, with its more than 30 enterprises, investment companies and offices across the country including Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan.
